Where we've got to
* 8 acres of land secured on 25 year leases in Langwith village
* Land cleared of 6 foot high brambles and other vegetation that had taken over much of the site, with the help of teams from Community Payback
* Car park created
*
Two containers placed on site in February
2011 - one for storage, the other providing office space.
* Electricity and phone connections have been installed, and the site is now connected to the mains water supply
*
Our first three staff are the Managing Director, Jennie Street, the Admin/Finance Worker, Ruth Durham, and Site Manager Jason Rose. Jimmy Anderson worked from January to March as temporary Site Supervisor, while on short time over the winter from Creswell Crags.
We have employed three local lads as gardeners under the Future Jobs Fund - Liam Bytheway, Darren Stuart and Nathan Dall.
*
A growing number of volunteers and people on work and community service order placement are
working on site helping to prepare the land for horticultural use
* We have harvested our first crops - beetroot, onions, cabbages
* We have secured grant funding of around £60,000 - and have applied for a range of further grants to help towards set up costs e.g. for security fencing, polytunnels and other key staff members that will allow us to develop our therapeutic and training services for clients
* Nottingham University is funding the costs of insulating the office container, and materials to build on-site compost toilets
* We have held two events for local residents - a Soup on Site day, attended by over 60 people, some of whom have since started volunteering on Rhubarb Farm, and a Family Fun Day, attended by around 200 local residents
* An Advisory Group has been formed and has held five meetings since January 2011- with representatives drawn from local residents, potential referral organisations, local business people, and other bodies that are enthusiastically supporting Rhubarb Farm.
* Tesco has provided materials surplus to their requirements but which we have been able to recycle very effectively on site
